Hospitality Energy Support

Simple, low-cost ways to cut energy use and cost

Branded hotels get systems like Hilton LightStay and IHG Green Engage to gather energy and water data. Independent hotels and hospitality businesses usually don’t — we replicate that for you: bills in, clear data out, decisions that save money.

For independent hotels, restaurants, pubs, leisure centres and venues. Practical advice from a GM with 30 years’ experience. No hard sell.

The problem

Energy is one of the hardest costs to control in hospitality. Bills arrive late, figures are hard to compare, and there’s rarely time to dig into what’s driving overnight load, kitchen demand or plant that never sleeps.

Big brands already gather that data for their hotels. Independents are left with a pile of invoices. You need the same clarity — without a sales pitch or a dense consultancy pack.

Who it’s for

Built for independents and owner-operators — one subscription per site. If you’re already on LightStay or Green Engage, keep that for the brand; this is aimed at everyone else.

Hotels & spas

Bedrooms, laundry, pools, kitchens and cost per occupied bedroom.

Restaurants

Extraction, refrigeration, cooking kit and trading peaks.

Pubs & bars

Cellar cooling, heating and late trading load.

Leisure & gyms

Pools, air handling, hot water and base load.

Wedding & event venues

Seasonal spikes, heating and kitchen demand.

How it works

Same idea as a brand sustainability system — gather the data, show the trends — scaled for one independent site. Low effort for you; we do the reading and the reporting.

Subscribe

Choose Essential (£49) or Premium (£99) for one site — tied to that venue’s postcode.

Dedicated email

Get a dedicated address for that site’s electricity, gas and water bills.

Bills in

Forward invoices or ask your supplier to send copies. We pull out consumption, cost and trends.

Monthly report

Clear PDF you can act on. Premium adds “are you aware of these local grant schemes?” for your postcode area, plus dashboard, Green Tourism readiness and awards support.

Packages

Month to month. Operational energy support — not a sales pitch for kit.

Prices exclude VAT where applicable. Essential and Premium are operational monitoring and practical advice — not an ESOS assessment and not a promise of guaranteed savings. After 12 continuous months with Hospitality Energy Support on one site, we celebrate with a small practical gift (~£25–£30) — something useful at work or at home to save money: energy-saving bar / socket set, 20 LED bulbs, or a smart plug set (while stocks last; one gift per subscription). Exact products we can swap as we source them. If you need statutory ESOS work, we can introduce a qualified partner (optional). See Do we need ESOS?. If we earn a referral fee from a partner introduction, we’ll say so. Technical work stays between you and the specialist you choose.

Why this approach

Simple and low-cost

Built for busy operators, not energy departments.

Practical

We focus on the key areas that drive your bill.

Grounded

30 years as a hospitality GM — advice that fits real kitchens, plant and guest comfort.

Current

Tuned to today’s cost pressure, staffing limits and funding options.

Improvements & funding

Quiet and optional — only when monitoring points to an opportunity.

When data suggests a next step — lighting, heating controls, pool plant, variable speed drives, voltage optimisation, solar, EV charging, biomass pellets or gas CHP (including CCL relief via CHPQA) and more — we can introduce specialists who already work in hospitality. On Premium we also email links to your local council’s grant schemes for that postcode — different councils do different things.

Freebies & free help

Free water and energy resources, EV/solar grant pointers, plus a note for branded hotels. We don’t run these schemes; brand portals stay with the brand.

Energy & lighting

Unlike water companies’ free tap/shower kits, there isn’t a nationwide “free LED bulbs for hotels” giveaway. What’s free is advice, assessments, and (by area) grants that often cover lighting.

Smart meters are usually installed at no extra cost via your supplier — useful for independents gathering their own data.

Local council grants

Different councils do different things. Premium emails you links like this for your postcode — we don’t run the schemes.

  • Example — Sheffield Local Growth Fund Low Carbon Project — free energy survey + grant up to 50% (capped £30k) for SME premises in Sheffield; solar and efficiency (not EVs). Other South Yorkshire councils have their own pots.
  • Find your local council — then their business / climate / grants pages (same idea as Sheffield, different every district)
  • Workplace Charging Scheme — national EV grant, up to £500 per socket to 31 Mar 2027
  • Boiler Upgrade Scheme — biomass — £5,000 off a new biomass boiler (England & Wales; rural + off gas grid; MCS installer). Heat pumps on the same scheme (£7,500 typical). Older pellet systems may still sit on legacy renewable-heat support — check your own scheme papers; Non-domestic RHI is closed to new applicants.
  • CHPQA — Combined Heat & Power — Good Quality CHP (including gas CHP) can unlock a Climate Change Levy discount and related reliefs once certified — not a free plant grant. Worth checking if you already run CHP or are looking at it.
  • Voltage optimisation — lowers incoming supply voltage so kit isn’t over-fed; often suits hotels/kitchens with continuous loads (fridges, laundry, motors). Needs a site survey first — not a free device giveaway. In Scotland it can sit under the SME Loan / cashback route; elsewhere check your council pot or ask us for a specialist intro if the bills suggest it.
  • Find a government grant — national pots
  • Smart Export Guarantee — pay for surplus solar you export

On Premium: “Are you aware of these local grant schemes?” with the matching council page links for that venue’s postcode — and we can flag BUS / CHPQA where they fit. Bigger plant (biomass, CHP) stays a specialist intro if the bills point that way.

Branded vs independent

Hilton LightStay, IHG Green Engage, Marriott Serve 360 / MESH and similar gather energy and water data for branded hotels. We’re building the same kind of clarity for independent hotels and hospitality businesses — who don’t get those systems.

  • Hilton LightStay — brand data & reporting (owner/franchise portal)
  • IHG Green Engage — required brand sustainability system
  • Marriott Serve 360 — brand ESG / MESH reporting

Already on a brand system? Keep using it for brand reporting — we don’t replace it. Independents: this is the gathering and monthly clarity those tools provide, without the brand.

FAQ

What do I need to send?

Recent electricity, gas and water invoices (PDFs or email forwards). Occupancy figures help hotel reporting but aren’t required to start.

How soon will I get a report?

After the first usable bills are in, you’ll get a first report, then a monthly cadence.

Is this an ESOS assessment?

No. Essential and Premium are operational monitoring — not ESOS. Phase 4 qualifies on 31 December 2026 with compliance notification by 5 December 2027. Use our simple Do we need ESOS? checker, then confirm on GOV.UK. If you need the statutory assessment, we can introduce a qualified partner.

Can I cancel?

Yes — month to month. No long lock-in on the core subscriptions.

Can one subscription cover several venues?

No. One subscription = one hotel or venue, tied to that site’s postcode. Each extra site needs its own subscription.

What does Premium add for Green Tourism and awards?

Premium helps turn this site’s energy results into evidence for Green Tourism readiness, drafts one Regenerative / sustainability tourism awards entry per year for your local VisitEngland-aligned competition, and emails you about three months before that area’s awards open or close.

What are the Premium local grant alerts?

Different councils do different things — a solar or EV pot in one district may not exist next door. We map your venue’s postcode to your council, then nudge you with links to that council’s own grant or climate pages (and any national pots that fit): “Are you aware of these local grant schemes?” We don’t apply for you; we hand you the right links for your area.
